(Last Update: 06.09.2024) In this article, I will describe a beautiful place that has managed to remain hidden in a public place in Paris, or has chosen to remain so, as a small but very special and important place in Paris. Museum of Romance – Musée de la Vie RomantiqueI want to introduce to you. Musée de la Vie Romantique can actually be translated as "Museum of Romantic Life", but I refer to this museum as an art movement. romantic period I prefer to call it the "Museum of Romance" because of what it represents.
Musée de la Vie Romantique (museum for romantic or museum döla vi ğomantik) 9. borough'in Pigallewith Blanche metro in the middle of the stations, Boulevard de ClichyIt is located slightly below. Rue Chaptal This museum, which you will see when you walk about fifty meters through the passage, which you will enter through a narrow door, awaits its visitors in an extremely quiet and serene courtyard. So much so that PigalleIt is quite surprising to step into such a serene atmosphere after the crowded and lively world of .
When I went here for the first time, I felt like I was somewhere outside Paris. Givernyin Monet's House came. Of course, the surroundings of the courtyard you are in are like the typical inner courtyards of Paris, surrounded by buildings, roofs, windows; You are in the typical Parisian architectural texture, but the house in the middle of the courtyard gives you the same feeling of being in a countryside.
Good news here a free museum to be. If you are lucky enough to come across it during a quiet time, it is quite enjoyable to wander around. As I always say, looking at the works exhibited in the museum is a different pleasure, as is examining the building you are in. At the entrance, you go through a simple security check and enter the booth on the left to buy a ticket. There is no payment for this ticket, I think they made such an application just for statistics. In some of my visits, I was not given a ticket, but it is not a big deal. In some periods, periodic exhibitions may be paid.. Therefore, before you go, it is useful to look at the current information on the official website at the end of the article. Then you leave here and enter the garden and your tour begins.
It was built by Dutch-born painter Ary Scheffer in 1830. This museum, which is a house, is also a building that witnessed the days that had an important impact on the romanticism movement. Of course, we define romanticism in its popularly accepted sense today. music, candlelight, wine and rose petals You should not think like this. Romanticism is an important movement that emerged in Germany at the end of the 18th century, affecting especially literature and other branches of art such as painting and sculpture. It was a reaction to the rational approach of the 18th century, when capitalism standardized human life, and people could no longer be themselves. In short, we can say that he was born as a reaction to his inability to express himself freely..
Therefore, the romanticism in this museum has no direct relation to the romanticism that has taken on a completely different meaning today, but still, when you visit the Musée de la Vie Romantique, your emotions towards the works are different; It is certain that these works have an aspect that stimulates different emotions.
Actually the museum is quite small. When you enter the hall on the left of the entrance, the environment you live in in Paris changes immediately, it is as if you go back two hundred years ago. Paintings, sculptures, different objects; Each of them is worth examining at length, but of course you will focus on the ones that interest you the most and naturally glance at the others and pass by.
After the first hall, you move on to the second hall, which is a very ornate place. Then you take a look at the small room next door and leave. We just take a look and leave, but some people spend hours here. The day we visited the museum, I witnessed five people, one of whom was a child, sitting in five different halls and drawing for a long time. I wish I had such a talent and could sit here and draw in silence for hours.
After visiting that small room, you go upstairs. There is also a medium-sized living room and two small rooms. Each of the paintings on the wall is more beautiful than the other, you can't get enough of them if you look at them for hours, but for some reason, what impressed me the most were the devil statue in the large hall, the piano in the small room covered with green plaid fabric, and of course, watching the garden from this room. When I entered that room, I dreamed that I was living here and watching the garden from this window.
Actually, there is another floor above, but when you see that it is not open to visitors, you feel the need to visit this floor once more; Then you feel like wandering around the lower floor once more; Because you want to spend more time here, this time you spend a longer time in front of the works you love. Of course, when you visit, the top floor may have been opened and the format of the rooms may have been changed according to periodic exhibitions.
On my first visit here, I wrote this blog in the guest book before leaving the museum. I wrote that I had prepared a website called Pariste.Net, that I liked this museum very much, and that I would prepare an article about the Musée de la Vie Romantique in order to attract more Turkish visitors and enable more people to see these beauties. And as you can see, I kept my promise 😉
When you leave the museum, you want to enjoy the garden again. The museum's cafe is on the left when you exit the building's door. Rose Bakery It is a very nice place. This is a very cute place where you can have a coffee in the garden if the weather is suitable, or have a meal or dessert if you wish, giving peace with its glass-fronted structure in such a quiet and serene atmosphere. I suggest you take a look while you're at it. In fact, I went to this museum a few times just to sit in this cafe 😉
If it's cold in winter, I can't guarantee finding a seat inside, because there are only 3-4 tables inside, but I still recommend coming here and checking it out.
After the museum visit, when you pass through the passage and reach the street, the location is PigalleYou are below . Up if you wish Montmartre ve Sacré Coeur You can walk to the side, or down if you wish. Lafayette ve SpringYou reach the area where . There are so many things to do in this area. Two steps away Place de Clichy and more importantly Montmartre Cemetery I must also say that it is.
To come here by public transport M2 metro Pigalle or Blanche of the line, M12 metro Just get off at the Pigalle or Saint-Georges stations of the line.
Musée de la Vie Romantique, Open every day between 10:00-18:00 except Mondays and public holidays. This is perhaps a special place, not for those who come to Paris for the first time, but for those who have been before and want to see different places on their next visit. What to do when you come with your spouse/girlfriend? romantic tour It may be a nice option to include in your travel list during travel.

Your site contains very nice and valuable information and it is obvious that it is the product of great effort. It was great to find it before a full Paris trip. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for your interest and nice comment.
I got off at Abbesses on line 12, went to Sacre Coeuer, Montmartre and then walked downhill and went down to Pigalle. There were many cute houses, cafes and delicatessens on the way down, I don't know the name of that place, I missed it a little because I got stuck there (Kismet, next time).
It is very normal to miss this place because although it is in a central location, it is in a rather secluded corner... Kismet, next time...
