(Last Update: 04.05.2023) For me Paris is at least Notre Dame Cathedral ve Sacre Coeur Basilica Another church as valuable Madeleine Churchis. This building reminds us of the famous Acropolis in Athens due to its architectural style. Madeleine, whose construction started in 1763 and opened in 1842 (Madeleine) is a very spectacular building with its magnificent columns all around, its triangular pedimented roof layout, its location in the middle of the square and its interior design, and therefore it definitely deserves to be on the list of places to see in Paris.

Built in Neo-Classical style, the building takes its name from Maria Magdelena. 8. boroughIt is possible to take a full tour around the church located on Place de la Madeleine. The view of the rows of columns from every angle is incredibly impressive. The Madeleine Church is a very large building and is one of my favorite churches in Paris.

of the church Concorde SquareAs you go up the stairs at the entrance overlooking the building, the building begins to take you in. When you reach the main entrance, the view when you look back is truly impressive. on the horizon Concorde Square, at the extreme French National Assembly – Assemblée Nationale it seems. One cannot even get enough of looking at the reliefs on the main door wings. Such amazing workmanship is waiting for you to turn your head and get lost in the details.

When you enter, as in all Roman-Catholic churches, you are greeted by a little gloom but also a lot of grandeur. Especially the light leaking in from the three domes on the ceiling of Madeleine really adds a different atmosphere to the place. It is possible to go to the opposite end of the church. If you wish, you can sit and relax on the chairs in the middle area. If lighting a candle is a meaningful ritual for you, why don't you try lighting a candle here and at least wish you could come to Paris again?

How much time you spend inside is entirely up to you. “Did I see? Did I see?If you are in the mood, it will not take you five minutes to visit the Madeleine Church, but if you are one of those who like to examine every corner detail, you can spend hours here.

Of course, if you are in Paris as a tourist, your time is limited, you can give Madeleine as much time as she deserves and then go out from the direction you came from and get involved in life. The impressive depth that you left out when you entered the church will greet you again. While visiting the church is a pleasure in itself, this pleasure can double if you come across a service. Especially if you are lucky enough to come across a concert program and have the opportunity to buy tickets, here, for example, Listening to Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" is an unforgettable experience. I did it, it was really incredible...

  1. Hello Mr. Ahmet,

This church really has a very impressive structure and as you explained, you can go there just to stand in front of its door and watch the view.

I bought ice cream and chocolate from "Michel Cluizel", one of the most famous chocolatiers in Paris, which has a boutique at the entrance of the street behind it, and ate it with pleasure while sitting on the stairs.

Once, my wife and I were sitting alone at Pouchkine, the most famous Russian pastry shop in Paris, which is just to the right of the church. The hall was truly fascinating and the service was very high quality and fast, probably because the employees were Russian :)

    Thanks for sharing.

Madeleine church is the only church that does not have a cross on its exterior.

I was told by an official that I asked out of curiosity while visiting the church that this church was not allowed to carry crosses by the Vatican itself. There is a big story behind this. Unfortunately, your article is very superficial, it contains ordinary information that anyone who looks at the pictures of the church on the net will know, and even half of the article describes the exterior of the church (including the Samsung store), not the interior.

People want to see information that they do not know and that has been recorded in history in such articles.

Why was the church dedicated to Maria Magdelenae and not to Jesus? For example, how many churches are there in the world that are not dedicated to Jesus?

What is the meaning of the inscription on the main plinth at the entrance (DOMSVB.INVOC.SM.MAGDALENAE)? Who gave the order for the construction of the church, who opposed it, why was the construction delayed, who had the chance to complete it (Napoleon), how long did the construction take, and which architectural school dominated the church (Greek, Roman)? Were the French revolutionaries against this great project? And which great composer's funeral was buried here?

There is no information. But most importantly, there is no cross on top of this church. If Madeleine is to be written, it needs to be worked on with some care. Otherwise, it is not original information that the door opens to Concorde Square.

Your content rating is 10 out of 1,5.

    It didn't happen.

      Hello Ms. Nil,
I have been writing this blog since 2014.
My claim has never been “I know Paris best”; I set out with the aim of "I would share with you whatever I know about Paris", and I have always valued the opinions, information and additions of those who know better than me. To date, I have written more than 500 articles about Paris and its surroundings... The information you share is very valuable; If we evaluate it from your perspective, I can say 10 out of 10, but since I do not give much credence to such gradings, I can only thank you on behalf of me and other readers who will read this article.
      Happy days, happy new year.

  3. It's very nice, you explained it very well, I want to travel….

  4. Can I ask a small detail? I remember seeing the Jenanne d'Arc statue in the Maria Magdalena church, but I wonder if it is true.. Did this church have a statue?

    • Hello, I must admit that it has never caught my attention until today, but I did a little research on the internet for you and found out that the statue is in this church. I will go to Madeleine at the first opportunity and try to see this statue with my own eyes.
