(Last Update: 03.09.2024) One of the most magnificent museums in Paris Invalides or officially known as: French Military Museum – Musée de l'Armée, is a very comprehensive war history museum consisting of seven different sections, including Napoleon's tomb. Like many other Paris museums, this museum is a magnificent building worth visiting just to see the building itself, let alone the valuable exhibition objects inside.
For entrance to the French Military Museum – Invalides building Seine River I recommend using the entrance on the side. Because then, as you move into the inner courtyards, you begin to travel slowly through history and lose your connection with the outside world in a very short time. After entering the first garden, you reach the main building; You will see the ticket office on the right. If you wish, you can also buy your ticket online before your arrival, from the links below. In the large courtyard inside, there are commemorations of soldiers or other state officials who lost their lives for the French state from time to time. funeral rites being edited. Even here some evenings sound and light shows is happening. Life wedding and funeral Isn't it something like...
Although the works exhibited in the museum normalizing, aestheticizing war ve sublimation Even though they have missions, they are like me in that every country evaluates its army in this way and bases its existence on its military successes in history. antimilitarist Although it may prevent someone from admiring what they see, it is impossible not to be impressed by what you see in the museum.
As in every military museum, the French Military Museum has plenty of cannon-rifle, armor-helmet, sword-dagger, uniform, tools and equipment, as well as many documents, paintings and sculptures. Countless works like these are waiting for your visit here, in a huge and magnificent building.
The piece that impressed me the most was the figure of two lovers on a military cannon. It touched me very much that the loving embrace of a spouse or lover bidding farewell to a soldier going to war was depicted on a piece of war equipment. Those who died in the war were human beings, and of course, humans were beings equipped with humane emotions.
In fact, all kinds of documentaries, historical documents, documents, paintings, photographs, whatever you can think of that talk about wars always stylize the war. We all "martyrWhen you say "for your homeland" Lying down from his clean forehead after being shot We visualize a hero. However, on the battlefield, those bodies are torn apart, their internal organs come out, and the place smells like human flesh and feces.. This should never be forgotten when visiting such a place.
Maybe it is necessary to visit such places in order to learn from wars and to understand once again the meaninglessness of wars.
It is possible to find traces of the French Revolution, the first and second world wars and many important wars in French history in this museum. However, of course, in the first world war, our eyes look for traces of the Ottoman Empire, but it seems as if the Ottomans were not present in that war. Still, this is a museum for the French, of course they want to see history through their own eyes. When you look through their eyes War is a very aesthetic action full of heroism..
As you travel through history, your path will end Charles de Gaulle, the first President of France after the Second World WarIt reaches . This part of the museum is its most modern side. You watch de Charles de Gaulle on a giant screen. Then, with an all-round arrangement, you witness the importance of Charles de Gaulle in French history in the flow of history. In that case Champs-Elysees – Boulevard Champs-Elyséesat the beginning of Charles de Gaulle – Étoile It becomes more meaningful.
Another part that should not be missed is the museum inside the museum. Saint-Louis Cathedral. This is actually a very aesthetic, large chapel, and on some special days, you can listen to classical music concerts here. Also The crescent and star figure on one of the pennants hanging in the chapel It caught my attention, but I couldn't find what or which region that figure represented. Maybe you can find it and share it with us?
However, the most magnificent part of the French Military Museum is of course Napoleon's tomb. In fact, in today's France, Napoleon is not remembered with as much gratitude as we think, but still, due to the French's respect for history, Napoleon's mausoleum receives the necessary respect.
To see Napoleon's tomb, you go around the back of the French Military Museum building and enter through a separate entrance. There is a passage from inside the museum to here; If you wish, you can even start your museum entrance directly from this side. This large-domed, gold-leafed mausoleum, visible from many parts of Paris, is also extremely impressive when viewed from the inside. The most interesting surprise of the building is here. While you are looking at the ceilings and your surroundings with admiration, you notice that there is a round and wide gap in the middle.
Napoleon's mausoleum is located right here. It is possible to go down to this floor and see the mausoleum from below. At that point, you feel like you are in a tomb, despite all the magnificence. The dome of the mausoleum shines like a sky dome above. Then, when you go back up and come back to life, you understand the value of life once again...

When you leave the museum Pont Alexandre III If you walk to the side, on the shore Rosa Happiness on the Seine or Bistrot Alexandre III comic barge It can be considered as a good option to sit in cafes and drink a tired coffee.

Dear Mr. Ahmet, the flag you are asking about here was the flag used by the Moroccan kingdom (Alaiuite Dynasty) after 1669. I believe that the flag displayed in the museum is a military flag that fell into the hands of France after the war.
Thank you very much for sharing this information with us…
Hello,
I started my tour in this museum from -I think- its most classical area, Napoleon's mausoleum. It is truly an incredibly magnificent building, both outside and inside. However, as you have mentioned many times, the French do this job so well that you constantly find yourself with your mouth wide open in front of a building/work. After Napoleon, I entered the areas where World War I and II took place. It was so impressive for me that I spent all my time (almost half a day) in just these two areas - probably because it attracted my attention - and I had to leave without looking at the rest :) But seeing Paris as we know it under occupation and witnessing those days so closely It affected me deeply.
I wanted to thank you for your advice. It is truly a place that should be seen by those who are interested.
Yours.
It is a museum that I need to go back to as soon as possible, visit it in more detail and photograph it again.
It's a really beautiful place.
Thanks for your comment.
Hello Mr. Ahmet,
There was a small corner with souvenirs on the top floor of the first entrance section of the museum with a ticket. When we went there, they were closed at dinner time. A lady on duty said, "I'm going to have dinner, but if you want, I can wait." But I didn't want to steal her dinner time, so we said we could come back later. He said there was a more comprehensive museum shop downstairs, so we went there.
We found only one puzzle about Napoleon in the Louvre museum, other than that, there were related magnet cups etc. It was there.
We also have mugs, glasses, etc. We have no place to put it anymore.. but in addition to the puzzle, we bought a Mona Lisa cup and a Napoleon shot glass from the Louvre..
What impressed me the most was a white horse named Vezir, which Selim III gave to her as a gift and spent with her until the last moment, and which was stuffed after his death.
Good work,
Hello Mr. Ahmet,
I bought a ticket online to go to this museum.
For other tickets, I bought tickets for my wife and me, but when the computer froze during the online transactions of this museum, I found that I bought two tickets for myself. I hope there will be no problems with the entrance :)
My son has a special place for us because he started reading books thanks to the book about Napoleon :)
He wants a small souvenir related to him on this trip, actually he prefers something like a puzzle, but I have no idea if it will be available.
Do you think that a place like a stationery store sells something like a puzzle about this hero, or is there a corner in France where souvenir items are sold in museums (I'm sorry if you mentioned this in your article about other museums, as I only focused on this when I found your article about this museum. .) can I ask…?
Kindly regards,
Hello Ms. İdil,
The important thing for museum tickets is that the barcode is read correctly. Other than that, I don't think there will be any problems, rest assured.
Invalides is a truly impressive museum. Especially the section where Napoleon's tomb is located is quite magnificent.
In France, there is a "museum shop" in every museum. In fact, many of them are quite impressive. I am interested in collecting trophies. I try to buy mugs from every museum I go to, but I had to stop when I ran out of space to put them at home :) For example, I have a hard time not buying mugs from the "museum shops" in some museums :) There can be such beautiful products...
I don't remember if there were Napoleon-themed products in the museum shop in Invalides, but I think there probably should be.
I would be happy if you could help me confirm and update this information after visiting this museum.
Have a nice holiday in advance.
