(Last Update: 06.06.2025) I always say, “Marais District "an inexhaustible treasure." I traveled many times as a tourist, and during the ten years I lived in Paris, I would go to the Marais almost every week. Sometimes I would make the mistake of thinking, "Okay, now I've learned about these places," but then I realized that there were still a ton of new things to discover. Here is one of them, another museum we came across by chance in August 2014: Cognacq Jay Museum – Musée Cognacq-Jay (museum cognac)
As I passed by, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people in Paris spectacular "ordinaryCognacq Jay Museum, which we thought was one of the buildings, but suddenly realized that it was a museum while looking from its main gate to the courtyard. 17-18. in the century was made and at that time private residence was used as. Already in France, such residences aremansion” and the name of this structure is “Hôtel de Donon".
Once you enter through the main gate and look at the courtyard, enter through the gate on the left and reach the box office, you will see the Cognacq Jay Museum. free Of course, you will be very happy when you find out that it is possible to visit the museum :) However, you are given a free ticket to determine how many people visit the museum and you start your tour. An additional fee may be charged when there are temporary exhibitions, this should be taken into consideration... As I always say, visiting such museums in Paris is a very enjoyable activity not only to see the objects exhibited in the museum, but also to wander around those magnificent buildings. Cognacq Jay Museum – Musée Cognacq-Jay offers its visitors the same pleasure in terms of seeing both the works on display and the building itself.

Cognacq Jay Museum – Musée Cognacq-Jay named after one of the famous shops in Paris La Samartineformer owner of Monsieur Ernest Cognacq and his wife Madame Marie-Louise JayIt takes its name from the surnames of . La Samartine, Lafayette, Spring, Cheap One of the most famous department stores in Paris.
As you begin to wander through the floors of the Cognacq Jay Museum Monsieur Cognacq ve madame jayYou can see examples from 's private collections, beautiful paintings, sculptures and objects, as well as various furniture and accessories.
As you wander through the floors like a labyrinth, you admire the modestly sized yet impressive paintings, and you find yourself imagining what kind of lives people once lived in this building.

The rooftop of the Cognacq Jay Museum is a very impressive place, as far as I can see from the photos, but I did not have the chance to visit it because this part was under restoration when I visited. Still, the works I had the chance to see were satisfactory enough; Now for another time. Especially the Marais Districtin Carnavalet MuseumAfter , it was a pleasure to discover such a museum, which, although not as magnificent, can be visited.
We found ourselves again after our museum visit. MarshWe let life flow in the colorful and lively streets of , and I'm sure you will too. While on these sides, exactly behind the parallel Swedish Cultural CenterYou can also see . Jewish pastry shop nearby Sacha Finkelsztajn It's also one of my favorite places. Hello, I have been following your articles for a while and I appreciate them. I have a question for you. If I wanted to come to Paris, would there be any harm in staying in a Plugg Inn Hostel type place (I think the daily price was 25 euros, which was reasonable)? Some people say that the streets are very dangerous after 11 at night (black danger?) I would be very happy if you could answer my questions about this accommodation and security. Have a nice day... Thank you in advance
Hello,
To be honest, I would love to, but I have never stayed in a hostel in my life. I think there will be no problems in shared accommodation except for the security of belongings. I looked at the location of the Plugg-inn and it doesn't look like a problematic place on the map. I have never felt unsafe at night in Paris, but of course it varies from person to person. Nights around Gare du Nord may be unpleasant, and personally, I don't like the 13th, 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissement, but it's a matter of taste. 25€ is a great price :)
I also have a general article on "Where to stay in Paris" in my plan, I will publish it within a month at the latest.
Thank you for attention
Thank you for your quick and satisfactory answer. If I get into the university of my choice, I want to come to Paris for a short time in the summer. Thanks to your blog and Ekşisözlük, I find answers to almost all of the questions I am looking for. I appreciate your work and wish you a good day.
