(Last Update: 07.09.2024) In this article, Europe's largest financial center Paris La Defenselocated in, today used as a shopping mallTogether, we get to know a special building with a very different architecture: CNIT
Defensein the main square Great Arch of DefenseWhen you turn to , the building on your left is a large shopping mall. Les Quatres Temps', while the building with an oval exterior on your right is CNIT.
CNIT (kinit) It was built in 1958 as an exhibition and fair center a structure. At that time, there was no business center formation in this region. DefenseIt has the distinction of being the first building built in . There used to be a factory on the site of CNIT; Grand PalaisWhen the space became insufficient for fairs and exhibitions in , it was decided to build a new fair and exhibition hall and this was chosen as the location.
Suitable for the triangular structure of the land The French built one of the most contemporary and beautiful buildings of its time here, with a triangular foundation, three curved facades, glass cladding on all three exterior facades, and a monolithic reinforced concrete roof without a central column.
CNIT (Cbetween Nouvelles Iindustries and TThe building, named echnologies – New Industries and Technologies Center, was opened by Charles de Gaulle, the founder of the fifth republic, that is, today's France, and at the opening ceremony he said:We have been building similar gothic buildings for centuries, finally we built a different buildingHe made a speech to the effect of "...
The building is truly very different and impressive - compared to its time. When you look from the outside, the glass curtain wall is bright, the oval form is aesthetic, the interior column-free architecture It also gives a feeling of spaciousness. CNIT's model where you can examine its column-free architecture closely Cité de l'Architecture – Architecture MuseumsiIt is also a pleasure for me to have seen it in .
In fact, this building has a design that can be applied elsewhere as a religious building or concert hall form. I wish there was a building like this in Istanbul and it could be used as a cultural center. In fact, I think a mosque in this form would look very aesthetic.
When CNIT was first built, its main entrance was on the bottom floor. Later DefenseAs a result of planning the city as the business center of Paris and organizing the square as a public transportation hub, and developing upwards in layers, Almost a third of it remains underground. Accordingly, the building was redesigned. As a result of this place being insufficient for fairs before, Porte de VersaillesWith the construction of a new fair and exhibition hall in , the building lost its function and remained empty for a while. Later, this place was reorganized as a congress center, shopping mall and hotel. Additionally, various fairs are held here from time to time. In 2019, the Westfield group acquired many shopping malls in Paris and its surroundings, one of which was CNIT. Hence the new name of this place WestfieldCNIT passes as.
When you enter, the curved triangular form of the column-free high concrete ceiling makes you feel like you have entered a giant tent. Above the main entrance Hilton Hotel is available. Since this place was added to the building later, it looks really interesting.
On the opposite side, you will see office floors on the left and right, but you cannot go up there. Only two floors are in use by daily visitors.
Sports goods brand here Decathlonhas a large store. You can also find all kinds of electronic goods, books, stationery products, CDs, etc. FNAC It is also located within CNIT. One of my favorite decoration products stores to visit. Habitatalso has a branch in CNIT. There are also many boutique shops and a large supermarket. Monoprix It is quite sufficient to meet your daily needs.
Eating and drinking Although it does not offer a very rich choice of food options, you may want to sit and have a coffee at the cafe-restaurant on the middle left of the building. Although Monoprix also has an area where you can sit and eat, there is a restaurant on the other side of the square that is affiliated with the same group. Westfield Les Quatres Temps AVM It offers much richer options in this regard.
There is an underground passage between both buildings. Right in the middle of both Defense'.n RER (A & E), metro (M1), tram (T2), otobüs ve train (Ligne L&UThere is a very large transfer point where ) lines meet. It is possible to easily reach every corner of Paris from here. For example from here Champs-Élysées'eat RER-A with five, you can go there in 10 minutes. Likewise from here again Garde du NordYou can easily go to RER-E's station is also right below CNIT.
Whether CNIT is a place to specifically come and see is up to your taste, but The contemporary face of Paris DefenseIf you want to see or if you somehow happen to be this way, I recommend you to go in and have a look.
And the one behind CNIT Courbevoie The neighborhood is where I lived in Paris for ten years; now Every time I come to Paris in the house here I'm staying. I hope we run into each other on the streets one day?
Pleasant trips, pleasant discoveries.

The modern face of Paris is also beautiful, both modern and green.
How beautiful it is that skyscrapers and greenery are possible together...
Hello, there are many nice hotels in La Defense. Do you recommend staying there? We will be coming to Paris for the first time and we are constantly warned that it is not very safe due to theft etc., should we stay on the Montmartre side or around the Eiffel or in La Defense? How to get to the center from here? Do we need to buy a different ticket for the metro since it is further outside? Can you help us?
Hello,
I recommend you not to go to the eastern parts of Paris unless you have to. The east and north sides of Montmartre are unpleasant, while the west and south sides are wonderful. I wrote a detailed article on this subject called "Where to stay in Paris". If your budget is suitable, it is certainly nice to stay near the Eiffel.
La Defense is the modern face of Paris. My home is here. I can go from my house to the Champs-Elysees in 15 minutes, door to door, this place has no problems in terms of transportation. If you use RER, a 1-3 zone ticket is required, but if you use the metro, a 1-2 zone city center ticket is sufficient.
I like La Defense very much, but I cannot say whether it will appeal to everyone, it is all a matter of taste, but it is perfect in terms of transportation.
We lived in La Defense for 2 years, but I didn't know that Cnit was the first building built in La Defense! My indifference.
We have been living in La Défense for 2,5 years. There is also a lot to discover in this modern part of the city, we all learn something new every day, Paris does not end with discovering and it is a very beautiful thing…
