(Last Update: 28.01.2025) In this article, we are going to introduce you to a place that, although it is in one of the most central parts of Paris, where crowded tourist groups pass by from a back street, it is a must-visit place for those who like to follow blogs and explore the details of the seaside corners of Paris. Yes, our stop today is a very enjoyable restaurant: Au Vieux Paris (o viyö pari or o viyö pagi).

in the middle of paris Cite Islandin, huge Notre Dame CathedralThis wonderful restaurant, located on a side street of , is unfortunately (or fortunately) not on the route of heavy tourist traffic, but is waiting for its enthusiasts in a hidden street at the back. That's why it has remained so beautiful, so peaceful and so enjoyable. You will understand better what I mean when you see the photos below.

Paris Metro M4 of the line City You can also reach Au Vieux Paris by getting off at the station. Hôtel de Villeright next to Pont d'Arcole It is also possible to reach it by crossing the bridge. Cross the bridge Cite IslandWhen you arrive at , if you walk a little further forward and enter from the first left, there will be a hotel waiting for you on the left. Au Vieux Paris is one of the oldest, most impressive restaurants in Paris.

Here It was built in 1512, by Pope Gregory VIII. This building where Clement stayed for six months It was opened as a wine bar in 1723 and has continued to serve this function ever since. Of course, as we get closer to the present day, the restaurant feature has gained more importance and it is truly sophisticated, tasteful, different from today, but it fascinates people with that historical atmosphere that we want to see and experience in Paris.

The most famous feature of the restaurant is the one covering its front façade. wisteria, approximately seven meters high and twenty-two meters wide. I had been waiting for the time when the wisteria bloomed here for a long time, but I was finally able to catch it in bloom for the first time in April 2019, long after I published the article :) And I immediately photographed it and added it to the article.

Of course, when I immediately shared this flowering version on my social media accounts, I wrote "purple hyacinths", but it turned out that these vines, which I knew as "purple hyacinths", were just called "purple hyacinths". I learned that thanks to social media after this age :) Thank you, long live...

Of course, the place is even more beautiful when the purple wisteria are in bloom, but if you go after the flower season, you will encounter a beautiful green ivy. Therefore, I think this place is beautiful in every way.

What I'm saying is: If you come across a time without flowers, don't worry; Whenever the weather is nice, it is always pleasant to sit on the colorful chairs in front of the door and eat and drink something. If the weather is cold or you went in the evening, then I will recommend you to sit inside. Because The interior decoration is amazing...

In my opinion, the red-walled decoration of the upper floor is much more fascinating compared to the stone-heavy medieval atmosphere of the ground floor. For that reason It would be better if you choose the upper floor for your special dinners.. You feel in your bones that you have arrived at a place that is both historical and elegant.

The menu is mainly French and I cannot say that it is very cheap, but I can say that it will be worth the price you pay. You can always find current prices on the official website link at the end of the article.

Every time we went here, we always sat in front of the door; I mean, we've never been there in cold weather, but as you can see, the inside is very beautiful. I will never forget how impressed I was, especially when I went upstairs and saw that red atmosphere. I am sure that this place will be unforgettable for you for your special evenings.

By the way, I thought this was just a restaurant, but it wasn't. There is also an apartment upstairs that they rent daily. Apparently. When I asked for permission to take photos, the cheerful waiter, or rather the cheerful chef, asked if I had seen the apartment above, and when he learned that I had not, he immediately gave me the key and sent me upstairs accompanied by a waiter :)

While I was whining to myself, "Wow, what kind of apartments do I care about?", I was surprised when I entered the apartment located at the back of the upper floor of the restaurant :) This is a wonderful apartment, decorated in a very nice way, in the form of two rooms and a living room... The two rooms you see above and below The photo belongs to this apartment. Isn't it incredible?

When I took my photos and came downstairs, the chef asked if I liked it, of course I did; When I said I wanted to know the price, he said "2 rooms - 4 people per night is 300€" and believe me, this place is incredibly affordable for such a place and such a location... I think it can be tried.

They said, “The price definitely does not change,” but of course, it is not possible for me to keep up to date. That's why it's best to get up-to-date information from their official pages in the link at the end of the article. Of course, you should go here primarily for its restaurant feature. Let's say the food is average, but the waiters are very entertaining, or I always thought so, I don't know. Now you all know that the place is wonderful.

I love this place so much that it became my biggest hobby for a while, especially catching the wisteria 🙂 Also, this restaurant, my book A Week in ParisThe fact that it takes place in a part of the movie creates a special attachment for me.

Here Notre Dame CathedralYou should definitely stop by on the day you go to see. Our LadyWhen you see the main entrance door of , turn left at the bottom of the left tower and a little further on, enter from the right, you will see Au Vieux Paris d'Arcole. This name “Arcole” comes from the name of a battle that Napoleon won against the Austrians in 1796. For us, today it is just the name of a beautiful bridge, a beautiful street, a beautiful restaurant.

I really like the things you can do in the area after the restaurant. Île de la Cité – Cité Island You can find it in the article. I hope you will visit this place as soon as possible and have the beautiful experience we had. I hope I can take the hyacinth cover photo that I am so excited about in the spring of 2019 :)

Bon appetit honey and sugar…

  1. Thank you very much for your suggestion, Mr. Ahmet :) The confit de canard dish you suggested was truly wonderful! The spirit of the place was also very beautiful! Meanwhile, menu implementation was carried out during lunch and dinner hours. By paying 25 Euros, you can order a salad or dessert + a main course of your choice + wine or fruit juice. When I saw that the price of confit de canard on the menu was 25 euros alone, I was even more happy for the menu implementation :))

I tried onion soup for the first time in France, but I didn't like the soup :))

Thank you very much for beautifying my Paris route.

    Cheers,
    Isra

A small correction is needed... The flowers at the entrance of the restaurant are wisteria, not hyacinths.

It turns out that what I used to know as "purple hyacinth" is actually "purple wisteria". I learned about this place when I shared it in bloom on Instagram the other day :) Thank you very much.

  3. Thank you very much, Mr. Ahmet. It is necessary to go without delay, just when the hyacinths are about to appear. It really does seem to have a different atmosphere.

I've been trying to coincide with the blooming period for years, and I finally succeeded as of April 2019 :)

First of all, let me confess that I have never been inside☺️ I sat outside, it was very crowded every time. On one of our last trips, it was so crowded that no one came near us for twenty minutes. Then a middle-aged man came out and started clearing the tables and taking orders. But when he looked at the new tables and customers, his face literally fell. She was so tired. We are up too! But if I had to comment on what I've eaten before, this place is well below average in terms of Paris. Still, it is very enjoyable and photogenic to drink coffee under the shade of those huge purple wisteria on a summer day.

I love this place especially for its exterior and hyacinths :) Although the interior is also of good quality, as you said, the service is an issue. These topics are already covered in the article "What Will Happen to You in Cafes and Restaurants in Paris?" I tried to share it in my article. Thank you very much for your comment…
