(Last Update: 12.09.2024) One of the most famous and touristic restaurants in Paris. Chartier (specification or shaghtiye) I intended to write an article about it much earlier, but Cüneyt Ayral's book “my parisWhen I read the pre-publication draft of “ and saw that this was also mentioned in the book, I ethically decided to wait until the day the book was released. Well, now that the book is out, I can tell you about Chartier.
Chartier in Paris Grands Boulevards, Gare Montparnasse opposite and East Railway Station A classic and relatively affordable French restaurant serving in three different locations: I've mostly been to their branches in Grands Boulevards and Montparnasse, but I've never tried the one in Gare de l'Est. That's why I want to talk only about my own experiences in this article.
1896Chartier, opened by brothers Frédéric and Camille Chartier in , and continuing to serve in the same location ever since, is one of the most preferred restaurants today, both with its impressive decoration from the “Belle Epoque” period and its extremely reasonable prices. Parisn but also a touristic French restaurant Chartier's full name is "The Bouillon ChartierIt is referred to as ”.
9. borough'in, M8 ve M9 metro lines pass through Grands Boulevards For Chartier, which is located right next to the station, just get off at the Grands Boulevards station. At the station exit you will see Grevin MuseumOn the right side of, crossing the street perpendicularly Rue de Faubourg MontmartreWhen you enter Chartier, you can reach it from the entrance on the left. The place I recommend to you is not the newly opened section on the road, but the main restaurant section in the courtyard inside. It is impossible to miss this place because there are often long queues at the door and the majority of those waiting in line are tourists. If you go outside normal meal hours, you will have less risk of encountering a queue, but if you go between 12:00-14:00 at noon and 18:00-20:00 in the evening, you may have to wait in a long queue.
When you enter Chartier's revolving door, you go back nearly a hundred years. It feels like Clark Gable and Greta Garbo are about to pop out from around a corner at any moment in its high-ceilinged, extremely pleasant environment.
In particular, the brass hangers, which resemble the over-seat storage areas that used to be found on City Lines ferries or trains, make the environment look more stylish and aesthetic. High ceilings and mirrors also reinforce the feeling of spaciousness. Since the waiters working here are used to serving tourists, you can easily order if you speak English.
To go to the Montparnasse branch, take the metro M4, M6 M12 or M13 of subways Montparnasse You should get off at the station. However, since this station is quite large and complex, it may make your job easier to get out of the right exit. For this reason, 8 output So if you find exit number 8, you will reach the front of the restaurant. If you accidentally exit from another place, Montparnasse SkyscraperYou can see it on the left diagonal as you walk down from .
The entrance door is like the one in the photo above, but don't be fooled by the fact that I was able to catch such an empty moment... There is a high probability that you will come across a queue here too, if the queue is short, you are very lucky. But when you enter the door, a wonderful environment awaits you like the one in the photo above. I love both of these branches so much. A Week in Paris There are stories in both restaurants in my book. If you go there, maybe you will remember the characters in the book 😉
For the dishes on the menu, French cuisine interpreted for tourists we can say. Prices are for such a nice place under Paris conditions extremely reasonable. Also, the waiters here are used to demanding that the meat be "well done" because they host a lot of tourists. Those who know, know that according to the French, well-cooked meat is not meat; In other restaurants, when you order well-cooked meat, waiters look at you strangely. Here, they have the grace to understand by saying "hmm" :)
I don't think the food at Chartier is very tasty. We can only say that it is satisfactory in terms of price-quality balance and eating at such a place. After all, Chartier is one of the places that can be preferred if you want to eat good or bad French food in a place like this for a penny or less under Parisian conditions.
I have eaten here many times. Once, when we went with our guest dear Ömer from Istanbul, we both ordered the same meal (rumsteak) and we were both badly poisoned that night :) After a long time, this time we went with my cousin Pınar and her husband Yunus, who also came from Istanbul. Moreover, Pınar was pregnant, but nothing happened to anyone this time :) After all, this is one of the most well-known tourist restaurants in Paris; Good or bad, it deserves this title. Let's say it was a misfortune we experienced.
Chartier is open 365 days a year. The service starts at 11:30 and continues until midnight. As I said, if you do not go at full meal times, you can enjoy a reasonable meal at an affordable price and breathe in a nice atmosphere without having to wait in line.
Montparnasse Skyscraper The branch opposite is a much cooler place. When you walk in, you think you'll pay a lot of money, but that's not the case. This used to be a stylish restaurant called 1900, but then Chartier bought it and started to serve here with a reasonable price policy. Chartier's Montparnasse branch Grands Boulevards I love it as much as its branch. That's why A Week in Paris In two separate stories in my book, I had my novel characters eat at these two branches.
If you happen to be there, go and see if you'll love it as much as I do.
Pleasant trips, pleasant discoveries…
Enjoy your meal…

I also found this restaurant https://www.bouillon-julien.com This place is different, but I don't know if there is a similarity in the name... This place is also very old. Maybe you would like to go too...

Hello Ms. Semra,
Julien is a more elegant restaurant than this one and is located in the Turkish quarter in Paris. I also mentioned it in this article:
