(Last Update: 25.01.2025) In this article, I would like to introduce you to a Jewish patisserie that I came across by chance when I first came to Paris, and which I loved as soon as I saw it: Sacha Finkelsztajn… I loved this place so much that, when I was making a list of "places to go" for all my friends who would go to Paris after me, I made sure to add this place to that list. And you know A Week in Paris I also mention this beautiful patisserie in my book.

Probably "sasha finkelsteinAll these years ago, I never thought of memorizing the name of this patisserie, which is pronounced as ". Because when we talk among ourselves we always say "Marais"Our patisserie in '" while talking to others.MaraisWe say "the Jewish pastry shop in . But I think I will have memorized his name by the time I finish writing this article :)

Jewish culture has always interested me, like many other cultures. Especially their music. The music of this culture affects me deeply, just as I am interested in the music of many cultures around the world. If you wish, you can first play some beautiful traditional Jewish music in the background, “Hava NagilaLet's put ” and continue our article while it plays in the background:

Here Marais DistrictA tiny patisserie located in the heart of . At first glance, it attracts attention with its yellow wooden display case. It's one of those typical old French shops, with its showcases on both sides and the door in the middle. As I said, the place is very small; There are four tiny, high tables on the right of the entrance; and high stools around them. That's right, sitting tightly on it, or rather perch You can drink your tea or coffee and eat whatever you want from the patisserie products.

As far as I understand, the owners of the bakery A Polish immigrant Jewish family; They founded this place in 1946Marais District In addition to being a neighborhood with a high concentration of gays, it is also a Jewish neighborhood, so there are many shops, cafes and restaurants run by Jews in this area. Sacha Finkelsztajn is one of them.

The uncle standing at the cash register, obviously the owner of this place, reminds me of the non-Muslim shopkeepers in Kadıköy of my childhood. He looks serious, knows his job, is a little sullen, but definitely works well; Employees must be either from the same family or friends and acquaintances; They all have similar styles.

Especially there is one grumpy old lady, I adore her. I don't know if I'm getting beaten or serviced :) I find it so funny that they are so tense. He's definitely not rude, he even seems like he wants to serve, but what kind of style is this? 🙂

When I didn't speak French, I thought they were grumpy French people who didn't like speaking English; whereas to learn french As I started and continued to go to this Jewish patisserie, I saw with amazement that the French working here, especially the elderly ladies, were not good at all. They speak with a very funny accent; They are grumpy and yet so sweet :)

I love Sacha Finkelsztajn for this and many other reasons. I would definitely stop by every time I came to Paris as a tourist; At that time, it felt like I was living in Paris and this was the patisserie I always went to in Paris. During the ten years I lived in Paris, this was the patisserie I always went to... Life is truly strange and full of surprises.

Since the place is small, finding a place is a problem. When I was a tourist in Paris, I tried to find a way to sit here and wait for people to leave, but now when it's full, I say "another time" Le Loir Dance La ThéièreI'm going to; Of course, there are many other places to sit, eat and drink nearby.

But my priority is always Sacha Finkelsztajn, of course. It's interesting here pastries, pastries, galettes, easter pastriesThere are all kinds of bakery products whose names I don't know. I always choose one of them, which has anise on it, looks like a cherry, tasteless and saltless, the name of which I still don't know, and I ask for it every time by saying "please" :)

But a cup of tea on the side. tea shake of course. This patisserie also has a delicatessen section. You also have the chance to find all kinds of Jewish appetizers. In fact, sausages prepared in accordance with Jewish traditions can be recommended for visitors who are sensitive about this issue, as they do not contain pork, as per their beliefs.

This place is nice, but it is not possible to sit at the tables for long. Since it's a small place, after a while you'll see people waiting in line. in pity You want to get up. Well, there is a lot to do outside: Marais DistrictYou are in the heart of . A tiny park just two steps away Jardin des Rosiers There is, then right in the back street Espace des Blancs ManteauxYou can visit the exhibitions in; Swedish Cultural CenterCarnavalet MuseumMusee du Cognacq-JayNational ArchivePicasso Museum and many more. All and more Marais District You can find it in the article.

To get to Sacha Finkelsztajn by public transport Marais Districtlike what happens M1 metro of the line Saint Paul It is enough to get off at the station, enter the BNP Paribas street opposite and take the second left; You will see this cute patisserie with a yellow showcase a little further on the left.

Let's end this article with another Hebrew song that I love very much and listen to Ahmet Kaya's "As I Cry" from the voice of a Jewish artist. Music is such a beautiful thing that unites people, and of course, life without music is a mistake:

With music, health, joy.

Happy Days…

  1. It was one of the places I saw in your live broadcasts and took notes. We stopped by on our last trip, and now it has become a place we want to go to every time we travel to Paris. I think we ate what you bought by saying 'please'. First, we ate it plain, but when we liked it so much, we ate the second one as a sandwich with the appetizers you mentioned. The appetizers were truly incredibly delicious. The best part was that the lady very carefully tasted the appetizers with a separate small bread and pickles before adding them to our sandwich. When he was sure we liked it, he spread it on the sandwiches :)
Thanks to you, we learned about a very enjoyable place again, thank you very much for your efforts.

Before our trip to Paris, I made a note by reading and watching Pariste.net. I can say that I studied very well. As Mr. Ahmet said, you should go except Saturdays. Since it is a Jewish neighborhood, Saturdays are days of worship and most places are closed. We went here on Sunday, had breakfast, found a place, saw the grumpy aunts, and breathed the air. We added a new one to our wonderful Paris memories. Thank you Pariste.net

Your observations and evaluations about your Paris trip that you share here and in other articles are guiding and informative for others. So I thank you.

  3. We were there at the beginning of August but it was closed. Those French people are very relaxed people. They do not die easily. Berthillon was also closed. However, if it were us, we would keep the shop open 24 hours a day during the best business period.

  4. Although I should not consume too much sugary and floury foods, I have always had a fondness for patisseries. I liked this place very much, especially its yellow appearance and that sullen lady you mentioned is worth seeing.
He also agrees that music unites people, and I cannot imagine a life without music.
Thank you for your efforts, thank you… Natali Çelikoğulları

    • The last time I went here was at the end of July 2017, everything was the same. The grumpy ladies stay in place, you have a lot of fun in such an environment :) The only problem is finding a place to sit and have a snack in the limited number of seating groups, but this last time I was interestingly alone; That tiny place seemed huge to me :) Thank you for your valuable comment, Ms. Natali, greetings and love…
